Job Hunting – A Cakewalk for Foreign Language Learners

21st century has come to be recognized as an age of cutthroat competition. If you desire to get hold of a reputed and well paying job, then a string of academic accolades won’t do much good. You need to sport an add-on accomplishment, which would help differentiate you from the crowd and increase your chances of getting the job in question. If you have been on the lookout of this particular add-on, then you must definitely consider taking short or long term coaching in one of the many hot selling foreign language courses.

What Jobs can Foreign Language Learners Grab?

                                   Or

Types of Jobs after learning a Foreign language?

•    Vital Positions in Multi National Companies (MNCs): One look around you and you are sure to bump into n number of MNCs, each one of which is seen making all efforts to overpower the other. Any MNC that you were to study in-depth, you would realize that it is made up of people belonging to different cultures and speaking different languages. In order to encourage healthy flow of information both horizontally and vertically and so also to do away with communication gaps of any kind, MNCs are seen hiring foreign language speakers, who can help eliminate language barriers right from the root level.

•    Government Openings for Foreign language speakers: As an individual who is firm on enjoying a certain level of job security in any opening that he or she takes up, a Government job is sure to rightly fit the bill. If you are interested in getting an easy entry in any of the Government departments, then your knowledge of a foreign language is sure to take you much ahead in the rat race. As a well versed foreign language speaker, you can grab a job in Government departments such as the Prime Minister’s Office as well as the Indian Revenue Service section.

•    Foreign Language Teachers: Of late, foreign languages such as French, German and Spanish are seen entering the academic curriculum, not only in colleges, but also in certain schools. As students are being introduced to a new language, one needs to be imparted knowledge right from the very basics. This is exactly where a foreign language tutor skips into the picture. As a foreign language teacher, you can either find a job at any of the academic institutions or instead choose to train students privately.

•    Foreign Language Freelancer jobs: If you do not wish to pursue a full time career with respect to foreign languages at large, then you can kick start your work on a part time basis. You can start exploring freelance opportunities either by spreading a word in your social circle or taking assistance from the Internet or social media as such. One very common job opportunity that you can grab as a foreign language freelancer is that of a foreign language translator or interpreter. Over a period of time, you will be able to make a strong foot in the industry and then freelance opportunities would just keep flowing in.

How well do Foreign Language Speakers get paid?

•    Demand Supply Imbalance: Knowledge of foreign languages such as French, German, Japanese, Chinese and even Spanish for that matter is very limited among individuals. This has led to a rigid imbalance between the demand and supply parameters. With introduction of foreign languages in academic institutes followed by knowledge of a foreign language being made a prerequisite by many of the companies out there, demand for foreign language speakers is seen rising with every passing day. However, on the other hand, the number of people who are well versed with foreign languages at large is somewhat low. This has led to a situation where in the demand for foreign languages is seen surpassing the available supply. This in turn has led to foreign language speakers fetching handsome pay packages.

•    Payment in Foreign Currencies: Yet another reason as to why foreign language speakers are seen earning heavy packages is because in some of the cases they get paid at rates compatible with the currency of the host country. For example, if a person is working for a US based company, then his or her pay package may be decided in dollars. Furthermore, if the person happens to be an Indian citizen, then there are bright chances of he or she receiving a heavy pay package, solely because the US dollar is much powerful than the Indian Rupee in today’s date.

What does the Future have in store for Foreign Language Speakers?

                                      Or

What is the Future of learning a foreign language ?

•    Precondition to Foster Exchanges: As you all must be very well aware, geographical constraints are slowly and steadily coming to an end with the world citizens coming together and becoming one. With the opening up of boundaries, knowledge of various foreign languages in order to foster meaningful exchanges among countries has become a must. What we need to note here is that this is just the beginning of it all. The future for sure is going to be much bigger and brighter as far as the need of foreign language expertise is concerned.

•    Better Recognition Worldwide: In recent times, having knowledge of foreign languages though considered a wise move is not been made mandatory as such. However, it would not be wrong to claim that in the near future foreign languages would take center stage with more and more people taking up various foreign languages courses at large. On the other hand, an array of professional institutes would be seen spreading their wings and finding base in each and every country on this globe.

•    Success Parameter in Jobs: If you were to appear for a job interview anytime soon, then in that case even if you are ignorant about foreign languages as such, not every company would disregard you. Based on your academic qualifications and interpersonal skills, you would be able to get a worthwhile job. However, the pace with which change is being introduced in the job market, it surely wouldn’t take much time for knowledge of foreign languages to be considered as a vital success parameter before selecting any candidate for a job. Almost every company, both domestic as well as international is expected to lay sufficient weight-age on the aspect of having knowledge of one of the many foreign languages available out there. This is exactly where, knowledge of a foreign language can act in your stride.

•    Self Improvement and Upliftment
Gone are the days when a person’s caliber was based on the number of degrees that person held or marks that he or she scored in their academic stints. Today, it is essential for every individual to break out of the shell and do something more different and challenging. One of the best ways to open up one’s limited avenues is to sign up for a foreign language course. Once you are through the course, you are sure to come out to become a more well informed and confident individual. This in the end will help you score full points on the self improvement and upliftment scale.

•    Complimentary Source of Income

If you wish to begin on a smaller scale, you can start by tutoring school and college students, who generally have a foreign language as a part of their academics. If you wish to operate on a larger scale, then you can simply set up your very own training institute. Likewise, you can also work as a freelance foreign language translator.

What are the basic requirements for learning a foreign language?

If you are wondering as to who can opt for learning a foreign language, then you will be glad to know that there is no such criteria for signing up to a foreign language course. Your gender, age or for that matter even your educational qualification will not come in the way as far as learning a foreign language is concerned.

•    School Students and Bachelors and Masters aspirants
If you are a school student, who is looking forward to enroll in a short term summer hobby class, then there will surely be a course designed to suit your individual needs and preferences. It does not matter whether you are pursuing a bachelor’s degree or have taken up a master’s course. In either cases, having knowledge of a foreign language is sure to help you both personally and professionally. The time required to complete a short term foreign language course is not much, which is why you can easily squeeze the same into your schedule. As a student, you can either take up a part time course in the form of a diploma, which would side your current qualification or you can simply complete your degree and opt for a full time foreign language course, which is sure to give you a broadened view of the language in particular.

•    Working Professionals
On the other hand, if you are a working individual, who is wanting to spend your evenings and weekends more effectively, then you can opt for a tailor made foreign language course.

•    Old and Retired Individuals

Last, but not the least, if you are a retired pension drawing individual, with not much activity at hand, then again a long course, spread across six months to one year can be taken up by you.

How to get started?

If you wish to acquire in-depth knowledge about a foreign language of your choice, then there are quite a few options available, for you to explore. You can pursue this course in either a main or part time basis.

•    Home Tutor
First and foremost, you can try and get in touch with a home tutor, who is willing to offer you one to one training. If you are a slow learner or are looking for personalized attention, then this mode of learning is absolutely apt for you.

•    Foreign Language Institute
Next up, you can enroll yourself to a well known foreign language institute, where you can opt for one of the many courses that are available with them. Courses tend to differ primarily on the basis of their time duration and level of difficulty. Based on your motive of learning the foreign language in question, you can zero down on a course that best matches your interests.

•    Online Foreign Language Training
If the above two alternatives appear very traditional to you, then you can pick out the more modernized and hip form of learning, which is to sign up for an online foreign language course. This medium of learning has its own set of benefits such as learn from the comfort of your home and so also learn at a time that best suits your routine.

How to get in touch with the Right Foreign Language Service Provider?

One thing that must have started bothering you by now is your inability to narrow down on a better than the best foreign language service provider. However, you will be glad to know that this is also a mere cakewalk.

•    Internet Search
You can begin your search for a foreign language service provider on the Internet. You will be exposed to n number of service providers, each claiming to offer a better course than the other. This is where you can bring public reviews in the picture and settle for one such service provider, who has had an array of happy and satisfied foreign language learners.

•    Rely on Word of Mouth
If the above suggestion fails to work for you, then you can begin researching in your close circles and get in touch with people who have already finished or are mid way through a foreign language course of your choice at a particular institute. This will help you make an informed choice, thus keeping any form of regrets, miles away from you.

•    Supplementary Sources
Apart from the aforementioned two methods, you can make use of newspaper ads, magazine insertions and of-course promotional pamphlets for locating a worthwhile foreign language institute.

Frequently asked questions related to Birth Certificate

My Birth certificate does not carry my name or my name is not there on the birth certificate or my name is missing on my birth certificate or instead of my name baby boy or girl is written.

If you are applying for a visa at UK, US Embassy or applying for Canada immigration or visa for any country and have any of the above queries then you can be relaxed as you are not at fault and this is not a big issue which only you are facing. Most of the Indian birth certificate, I can say almost 30% of the birth certificate issued before year 2000 does not carry child name in birth certificate, and this can be because of several reasons out of which main is our ritual “Naamkaran” which only allows to have child name after some days but birth certificate is already applied or issued by hospital or parents.

Though now a day’s parents are more and more aware of this issue and they make sure child name is printed on birth certificate because now a day’s use of birth certificate has increased significantly and it is being used for most of the applications like while applying for Passport, School registration, Visa, etc. But if we talk about late 80’s and 90’s, parents were less aware of importance of birth certificate and that is why issues of child name missing, father/mother name missing, wrong spellings, typos can easily be found in the birth certificate issued during this period.

But as I said this is not a reason to be worried about because even embassies are also aware of this issue and they do understand this situation and that is why a secondary evidence is asked as an alternate cum supporting document to birth certificate and this secondary evidence can be any document having your birth date, your name and name of both parents possibly, otherwise of either parents. Most common such documents used as secondary evidence are as follows:
1)    Passport
2)    Driving License
3)    Voters card
4)    Pan card
5)    Ration Card
6)    Hospital Birth record with name of child and both parents mentioned.
7)    Medical records
8)    School records which name child and both parents. This could be 10th or 12th class mark-sheet, 10th or 12th class certificate, school leaving certificate, degree certificate and matriculation certificate.

In case of submission of any secondary evidence with only your father’s name mentioned, do submit a cover letter mentioning the documents you are submitting and a statement that in your country it is customary to have only father name in these legal documents.

Also, when you are submitting secondary evidence then it becomes important or we can say mandatory to submit two affidavits from or by any two persons who have knowledge of your birth and the events you want to prove. But it becomes necessary to provide some details in the affidavit, regarding the person(s) making affidavit like: his/her full name and address, his/her date and place of birth, his/her relationship to you. Furthermore, he/she should mention the mention all the details related to how they came to know about your birth and if they have attended your birth ceremony etc. Statement should be true and with all the facts related to your birth.

Do I need to translate my regional language Birth certificate to English before submitting it to Embassy in India for Visa Application ?

Yes, if your documents are in any Indian, Foreign language or any other language other than English, you are required to get your documents translated to English.

My documents are in bilingual format, all the information are given in both Hindi/Punjabi/Marathi and English, do I still required to get these translated ?

Yes, even though your documents are in bilingual format and all information are already in both the languages but still you require translating these documents to English because embassy accepts documents only in English format with no other language.

Both Embassy of China in Delhi and different consulates of China in India can perform this type of attestation but you have to check for your respective consulate or Embassy based on the state you live in.
